Apple unveiled the Apple Home Collection on October 13, a new lineup of smart home accessories built with LG Electronics, ranging from a smart door lock and video doorbell to indoor and outdoor security cameras and a thermostat.

The lock opens while your iPhone stays in your pocket, and the cameras let you search footage with Apple Intelligence. Here is what each product does, what it costs in the US, and what you need to use it.

LG Smart Deadbolt Lock: unlocks without taking out your iPhone

The LG Smart Deadbolt Lock is $349.95 in the US and comes in Essence Silver and Essence Graphite. It uses Ultra Wideband (UWB), which can determine the distance and position between devices more precisely than conventional Bluetooth.

Walk up to the front door with a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch in your pocket and the lock opens on its own, even with both hands full of bags. The author also points out that UWB’s precise distance measurement helps defend against relay attacks that forward wireless signals. If your phone isn’t with you, there’s a PIN keypad and a backup physical key.

In the Apple Home app, you can share access with family members and guests, and get alerts when the door is left open or something is wrong with the lock. It supports Matter, the cross-brand smart home standard, and Aliro, the digital key standard, and its core access functions keep working when the internet goes down.

Video doorbell and three security cameras

The cameras come in four styles: a video doorbell, an indoor camera, an outdoor camera and a floodlight camera. All of them record at up to 2.5K, with features tailored to where they’re installed.

The LG Video Doorbell (Wired) is $249.95 and has two cameras. The 2.5K camera on top shows who is at the door, while a full-HD camera at the bottom looks down at the doorstep, so you can see the visitor and any package left on the ground, an area many doorbells miss.

Apple says the doorbell also has a built-in spotlight and a chime that plays through HomeView, HomePod or HomePod mini (Apple).

The $199.95 LG Indoor Cam is built with privacy in mind. It monitors the room while you’re away, then tilts its lens down when a household member comes home. Rather than just switching off recording in an app, it physically turns the lens away, which the author notes is useful if you don’t like a camera pointed at your living room while you’re there.

The outdoor camera is $299.95 and the floodlight camera is $399.95. Both offer color night vision, so you can still make out colors in the dark, and the floodlight model adds LED lights that turn on automatically when motion is detected.

Finding footage with Apple Intelligence

A standout feature of the cameras is video search powered by Apple Intelligence. When a delivery driver drops a package at your door, for example, the AI summarizes the clip in a sentence, so you know what happened without watching the recording.

You can also search in plain language in the Apple Home app, such as “the cat jumping on the dining table,” instead of scrubbing through recordings from the start.

These AI summaries and natural-language search require an iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence, plus a compatible home hub: HomeView, HomePod, HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K.

iCloud+ plans and recording storage

Storing video requires an iCloud+ subscription, and event history is kept for 10 days. Support for the AI features can vary by device and plan, so check before you buy.

The devices connect over Matter and Thread, a low-power networking protocol. You add them with your iPhone and manage everything in the Apple Home app, with no separate manufacturer app to install.

Camera video and personal data in Apple Home are end-to-end encrypted, so neither Apple nor LG can view the encrypted footage. Siri can also control several devices together, such as locking the door and turning on the cameras when you leave, or adjusting the temperature before you get home.

What US buyers should know

  • Availability: Sales begin in December 2026 in the US, Canada and the UK, with some products arriving in early 2027. The lock, thermostats and sensors are US and Canada only (Apple).
  • Where to buy: apple.com/store, the Apple Store app and Apple Store locations. Apple also offers professional installation through ADT at its US retail stores for an additional charge (Apple).
  • What you need: an iPhone running the latest software for NFC pairing, and a home hub for most features. Apple’s new HomeView hub is $299 and goes on sale November 13 (Apple).
  • Thermostat compatibility: The author notes the thermostat is designed for the 24V central HVAC systems common in North America. Apple says it works with a broad range of HVAC systems, includes on-device wire detection, and sells an LG C-Wire Power Adapter for $24.95 (Apple).
  • Warranty: Warranty terms were not included in Apple’s announcement and have not been confirmed.

The author’s take

The author welcomes being able to manage LG’s smart home devices in a single app, Apple Home, along with conveniences such as opening the front door with an iPhone and finding camera footage with AI. They also caution that the lock and thermostat depend on local door and heating standards, so buyers outside North America should check compatibility before ordering; the cameras are likely the easiest to adopt.
